The Kapoors are a wealthy family. There is grandpa Kapoor; Grandma Kapoor; their son Kailashnath Kapoor, and his daughter Ashi. As Ashi has come of age, the Kapoors are now on the look-out for a suitable groom. They meet with the Malhotras, as Mr. Malhotra has been a childhood friend of Kailashnath, and his wife. Their son, Rohit Malhotra, has also come of age, and they would like to marry Ashi with Rohit. Kailashnath tells his parents about this, and they all approve of the match. Ashi is very headstrong and wants to check out Rohit, and she travels to Switerland, where Rohit has a garment business. There she meets with Bobby Oberoi, and mistakes him for Rohit Malhotra. Bobby and Ashi fall in love with each other. Bobby makes a clean breast of the misunderstanding. The Kapoors meet with Bobby's mom, Gayetri Oberoi (Beena), and a marriage date is set. Shortly before the marriage, the Police investigate a large sum of money by Kailashnath. Gayetri, who is a bank manager, is approached by the Police, and she co-operates with them. Kailashnath is arrested. This angers Kailashnath and he cancels their marriage, and announces that Ashi will marry Rohit instead.

The Sharma brothers consist of former boxer, Brijmohan; Jagmohan, an Electrical Engineer; and Manmohan, a Mechanic. The brothers operate a garage under the name of 'Mohan Brothers'. Brijmohan had been in love with wealthy Kamini, but she decided to marry someone, and since that day, a heartbroken Brijmohan hated all women and instructed his brothers not to get involved with them. Ten years later, Jagmohan and Manmohan meet and fall in love with wealthy Sheela and her friend, Renu respectively. They continue to meet on the sly so as not to incur their brother's wrath. Then Renu's marriage is arranged with Prakashchand, the brother of Raja Hardayal Singh. When Manmohan meets Prakashchand he recognizes him as a killer. Before he could expose him, Renu, Manmohan, and then subsequently Renu's dad, Kishinchand, are abducted. The motive for this abduction is to force Renu to marry Prakashchand so that Raja can inherit Kishinchand's wealth. Before that could happen, the tables are turned, and history is re-visited when help arrives from an unexpected source.

Sakshi Shroff, the lonely and neglected wife of busy banking executive, Aditya, decides to give him a surprise on his birthday on July 22nd, but ends surprising him not once but multiple times. While Aditya is thrilled to know that both are going to be parents, and did appear surprised by the celebration, bitterness creeps in when he notices that Sakshi had also invited some ghosts (Rob Nancy and Kedar Zaveri) from his past. This gives rise to unpleasant memories involving a failed music group 'Magik' that he had associated with about a decade ago. Sakshi will soon find out why Aditya is displeased with her; why the music group broke up, ending in violence and acrimony especially between her husband and his former friend, Joseph Mascarenhas; why they cannot perform together ever again; as well as contemplate moving out and living with her mom.

Julie is an anglo-Indian girl with a loving, but alcoholic father and a domineering mother, a younger brother and sister. She falls in love with her best friend's brother Shashi Bhattacharya, a Hindu boy, and she has a passionate encounter with him, which leaves her pregnant. He goes away to college, not knowing about her condition. Her mother is distraught when Julie tells her about the pregnancy. They don't tell the rest of the family. Her mother thinks about getting Julie an abortion, but a devout Christian talks her out of it. Julie is sent away to have her baby in secret. The rest of the family is told that Julie got a job. When she comes back home, she runs into her Hindu boyfriend and tells him everything. He agrees to marry her, but his mother objects to the mixed marriage, not knowing about the baby born in secret. During the British rule in India several British citizens married Indians and their off-springs resulted in the creation of a new race, Anglo-Indians. One such family that lives in Shorandu, near Goa, is that of Morris, a driver of the Indian Railways, his wife, Margaret, two sons, Johnny and Jimmy, and two daughters, Julie and Irene. Morris is an alcoholic and his family fear that one day he may cause an accident by derailing the train. Julie is an attractive young woman, and there are several men who are attracted to her. One of them is Rahim, a store owner, who lets them buy groceries on credit, hoping to get married to Julie in return; then there is Richard who always hovers around Julie, hoping to win her heart. But Julie has given her heart to Shashi Bhattacharya, the son of Morris' boss, who lives with his devout Hindu mother and an unmarried sister, Usha. Shashi and Julie get intimate, and as a result Julie gets pregnant. She confides in her mother, who wants her to abort the child. She takes Julie to another town to her Aunt Ruby, but Ruby will not hear of aborting the child. As a result, Julie gives birth to a baby boy, and leaves him in an orphanage. During this time, Morris passes away, leaving the onus on Julie to make a living. Then Shashi returns home, meets with Julie, agrees to marry her immediately, talks to his mother, Devki, who does give her consent but first wants to meet with Julie. After the meeting, Julie departs, refuses to speak with Shashi. When Shashi goes to her home to talk to her, Margaret shuts the door in his face. What could have possibly gone wrong during the meeting between Devki and Julie?

Sholay means fire. In this particular movie, a Police Officer, who family was killed by a bandit named Gabbar Singh, decides to fight fire with fire and recruits two convicts, Jai and Veeru. He approaches them in jail, puts the proposal in front of them, and they agree to bring in Gabbar Singh alive - for a hefty price. After their discharge from jail, they travel by train to the village where the Police Officer lives - now with only his widowed daughter-in-law. The three band together to fight one of the most elusive and dreaded bandits of all time. Will the two ex-cons be able to bring Gabbar alive to the Police Officer? Written by Calista

Gabbar had massacred Thakur's entire family and even had his arms cut off. Unable to take revenge himself, Thakur Baldev Singh recruits Veeru and Jaidev, both small time crooks. Both agree to capture Gabbar Singh live and hand him over to Baldev Singh. Things do not go as planned. Veeru falls for the local horse carriage driver Basanti; and Jai starts to have romantic feelings for Baldev Singh's widowed daughter-in-law, Radha. To make matters worse, Gabbar has sworn to kill both Jai and Veeru, and holds Basanti as a hostage, to lure them to him. But Jaidev and Veeru was so clever that no bandit could outwit the two. Two convicts and small time crooks (Amitabh and Dharmendra) are picked by Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar), a former police officer, to seek vengeance on the dangerous bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) because he killed all of Thakur's family (except a daughter-in-law) and maimed Thakur for life.This was a result of an earlier incident in which Thakur -- acting as a police officer -- had captured Gabbar and helped in his conviction in the court. Gabbar managed to escape and wreaked havoc in Thakur's life. Now Thakur seeks the help of these two crooks to get Gabbar. Police inspector Thakur Baldev Singh has been assigned the task of nabbing a bandit named Gabbar Singh, he does so and manage to get promoted. But Gabbar escaped from jail and as a result massacre Baldev's entire family and has both his arms chopped off. Years later Baldev has now retired but still wants to average his family's death and finds he cannot do this job alone, decides to recruit two crooks, Jaidev and Veeru, who are jailbirds and have been in and out of various jails but on a police encounter with Baldev, years back both proves to be brave and accept this assignment for a lump sum of money and promises Baldev that Gabbar will be capture and be hand over to him alive not knowing that both will reach the same fate as Baldev as Gabbar now has more high-tech and up-to-date weapons to eliminate his enemies.
